WOLF CREEK RESORT DEMONSTRATES SUSTAINABILITY,

After four years in planning and an investment of $6,000,000, Wolf Creek Sewer Improvement District (WCSID) board members broke ground at the site of the new wastewater treatment facility on April 11th.  WCSID board members wielded golden shovels at the event, touted by board member Lowell Peterson as a new era for water treatment and use in Ogden Valley.

The new facility is using the newest wastewater technology, a membrane bioreactor (MBR) ultra filtration system.  The MBR technology uses bacteria to break down the pollutants in the wastewater and then filter out the solids.  The holes in the filters are so small they will not allow bacteria to pass into the discharged wastewater.  One of the features of the treatment system is reducing the pollutants to protect both the ground water and Pineview Reservoir.  The majority of the water will be stored for irrigation use.  This will help keep most of this valuable water resource in the valley.

The MBR offers significant advantages over conventional wastewater treatment facilities: it needs only a small footprint and can be housed inside a building, requires less maintenance and operation time, and consistently produces high quality effluent. Housing the facility in a building will control typical odors associated with wastewater.   According to Board member Steve Roberts “With this state-of- the-art facility, we can rest assured that this facility will only release clean water that might eventually reach these resources.”

The Wolf Creek MBR system will be completely housed in an attractive ranch style building on the existing wastewater treatment site on the corner of Willowbrook Lane and Wolf Creek Drive.  There will be very limited noise associated with the new facility.  The Wolf Creek Sewer Improvement District took a progressive approach with the selection of the MBR facility.  This facility will set the treatment standard for the valley in the future.

Construction began on the new facility the week of April 16th.  The entire facility, including landscaping, is expected to be completed in the spring of 2008.
